Councillor Eaon Wager - Bere Ferrers

Eaon is the current Chairman of Bere Ferrers Parish Council and was elected unopposed as a Conservative Borough Councillor in 2003.

He lives in Bere Alston


Councillor John Soul - Buckland Monachorum

John Soul is 57 and has lived with his wife in Yelverton for 16 years. He was educated at grammar school and at Guy's Hospital in London. He spent 28 years as a doctor in the Royal Navy before retiring in 1996.

His wife is also a doctor and recently retired from General Practice in Plymouth. They have two children. Their son is a helicopter pilot in the Royal Navy and their daughter teaches locally.They have  two grandchildren. John is therefore very aware of the issues and problems facing young families in the area and particularly those connected with health and the Armed Services.

He is involved in voluntary and charity work in our area. He is the Secretary of the Tavy Walkham & Plym Fishing Club. Besides his fishing, he is a keen gardener and has a small flock of sheep which keep his grass under control.

John was elected in May 2003.

Councillor Diana Moyse - Burrator

Diana Moyse lives in the National Park and has resided locally all her life. She works as a self-employed office administrator for a variety of small local businesses, and has served as a West Devon Borough Councillor in an adjoining ward to Burrator, was Clerk to the Burrator Parish Council and is currently Clerk to the Parish of Shaugh Prior. She therefore knows the area extremely well.

Diana is also an enthusiastic campaigner for a variety of causes, including the countryside, better services for rural communities, and is a formidable defender of national interests in the EU. She strongly opposes proposals for Regional Assembly, which may affect local government and has a European regional dimension. Diana works closely with Conservative MEPs, like Giles Chichester and Neil Parish, to ensure that this area is not overlooked. To this end she has lobbied the European Parliament on numerous occasions in Brussels.

Diana gained the Burrator ward for the Conservatives in May 2003

Councillor Geoff Broyd - Coham Bridge

Geoff is married to Coral and farms near Cookbury.  They have two grown up children who also live locally.
Geoff has always lived in a rural Community and understands the needs of rural people. He has served on a District Council before, so has experience of dealing with issues such as planning and local amenities.

Geoff was elected to the newly created ward of Coham Bridge in May 2003. He was subsequently elected Vice Chairman of the Planning Committee.

Councillor James McInnes - Lew Valley

James McInnes was born in Northlew, and has lived locally all his life. He attended Northlew Primary School and Okehampton Secondary Modern.
Until recently he farmed, and now works for the National Trust part time.
Having always been active in the community (local Parish Councillor and Village Hall committee member), James is committed to maintaining and improving local amenities. He has been Chairman of the local NFU branch.
Married to Penny James and has two stepchildren. When time allows he enjoys community amateur dramatics.

James gained the Lew Valley ward for the Conservatives from the Liberal Democrats in May 2003, heavily defeating the high profile Lib Dem Noel Cartwright.

Councillor Bob Williamson - Lydford & Dartmoor (inc Princetown)

Bob Williamson is married with two grown up daughters and three grandchildren.
Living locally, he is deeply involved in local affairs, is a keen sportsman, and is Treasurer of his local church. He brings a wide range of management expertise to this election, together with the time and determination to make it work for Lydford & Dartmoor.

By education an Economist, he is  a Chartered Certified Accountant, and holds the Diploma of the Chartered Institute of Marketing.

A Director of the Dartmoor Tourist Association, he is based at the High Moorlands Business Centre, and has worked closely with the DNPA in developing and implementing sustainable tourism strategies. During the F & M crisis he was active in the Ward helping residents obtain grants to get their businesses back to work.. He has recently been appointed a  Governor of the Princetown Primary School.

Over the years he has served as Parish Councillor, Planning Officer, and Chairman. A fervent believer in the place of Parish Councils in our society, he maintains contact with both Lydford and Princetown Parish Councils.

A keen supporter of Plymouth Argyll, he is an active competitive Masters swimmer, and is an RLSS qualified Life Guard.

Councillor Jo Slater - Okehampton East

Jo has lived in Okehampton for the last 25 years.  She recently remarried, having previously been known as Jo Harrison.

For many years she worked in the Okehampton Medical Centre as a Practice Nurse. She is now Nurse Manager of a team of specialist  Nurses covering the South of England. Jo was elected to the Town Council in a by-election in 2000.

She was elected to West Devon for the Okehampton East Ward in May 2003.

Councillor Shaun Watchorn - Tavistock North

Shaun has had a home in Tavistock since childhood.  He served with the RAF for 12 years and then worked as an expatriate engineer in Saudi Arabia.  He married Michelle four years ago and now works in a local industry.
Having lived in the town since he was a boy, he well remembers growing up in a place where everyone knew everyone and shop keepers would ask after the family’s wellbeing through a real community spirit.  This led to a respect for the town and townspeople he still feels today.

Shaun was elected in May 2003, regaining the second seat in Tavistock North for the Conservatives.

Councillor Mandy Govier - Tavistock South

Mandy is the daughter of a service family, and has lived in West Devon since 1985. She is married with an eight year old daughter.
She has played an active role in various school PTAs and governing bodies. She is a voluntary classroom helper.
Mandy has also worked for Cancer Research UK, Diabetes UK, and Anthony Nolan Bone Marrow charities  by fundraising and campaigning.
Mandy was elected to West Devon and Tavistock Town Council in May 2003. She is the first Conservative elected in Tavistock South.

Councillor James Morrish - Two Rivers

James was born and brought up in the local area. He lives in St Giles in the Wood where his family farm.
He works for the Rural Stress Information Network, and has been deeply involved assisting rural families coping with the aftermath of foot and mouth. He recently won the ‘Country Life’ magazine Young Ambassador for the Countryside award for 2002.
He is a Director of the Devon Regeneration Company
