Responding to the report on the follow-up inspection of HM Prison Dartmoor, Geoffrey Cox said:
I am very pleased that the Chief Inspector of Prisons has acknowledged the substantial progress that has been made at Dartmoor Prison. Having recently visited the prison with the Chairman of the Independent Monitoring Board, Jackie Sweet, I saw for myself the marked improvements and the enhanced opportunities which now exist at the prison for work and rehabilitation and the considerable success, in particular, of the resettlement unit.
Mr Cox continued:
It really does seem as if Dartmoor has turned the corner and the inspection report rightly attributes to its staff the praise and credit that is their due for this transformation.
