A full list of Conservative Councillors in the constituency for Devon County, Torridge District and West Devon Borough Council may be found in the Councillors section

The Conservative Party is a large and complex organisation, representing and involving people with a diverse range of backgrounds, interests and concerns.  It is a broad church, which encourages open debate and accepts differences of opinion.

What unites the Party are the core Conservative principles which provide our foundation.

Freedom
Conservatives believe in less interference from the State - freedom for individuals, families, voluntary groups and businesses.

Enterprise
Conservative want to keep taxes low and set businesses free from red tape to help Britain compete in the global economy.

Responsibility
Conservatives stand for the rule of law and support for all members of our society.  We recognise our duty to protect the environment for future generations.

Nation
Conservatives want to safeguard the Union of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, maintain strong defence and uphold our right to national self-government.  We want to be in Europe but not run by Europe.

Structure of the Association
The Torridge and West Devon Conservative Association is the Conservative Party local unit of organisation within the Parliamentary Constituency. Conservative Associations were originally set up to promote the Conservative Party following the passing of reform laws in the 19th century. Since then, their role as the grassroots local campaigning presence of the Party has continued to evolve.

The Association's rules are based upon those set out in Schedule 7 of the Conservative Party constitution. All members of the Conservative Association are automatically members of the Conservative Party. Similarly, those who join the party centrally and who live locally are automatically members of the Association.

The Association is self-funding, its structure and organisation is sustained by the voluntary work of members campaigning and fundraising locally. Unlike the party centre, there is no substantial donor base of high net worth individuals prepared to make large donations, though obviously some members give more than others.

Currently the membership of the Association is growing at a rate of over 20% per annum and is now in excess of 1,200 members.

Members are served by local branches based upon either towns, wards or parishes. In addition the constituency is divided into five administrative 'divisions' based around the five largest towns in the constituency - Bideford, Holsworthy, Okehampton, Tavistock and Torrington.

The Association employs a fully qualified Conservative Agent and an Office Secretary and maintains fully equipped offices in Okehampton. The Officers of the Association together with the Agent form the Management Team.

The Management Team reports to the 'Executive Council' of the Association, which is the governing body of the Association. All local branches have elected representation on the Executive Council as do Councillors and Divisional Committees.
